Actress Marlo Thomas pays tribute to ‘beloved’ husband Phil Donahue after his death: ‘I lost my sweetheart’

Marlo Thomas, an actress, has honored her late husband, talk show icon Phil Donahue.

Donahue passed away on Sunday, aged 88, after a protracted illness, his family revealed to “Today” on Monday.

Surrounded by his loved ones, especially his wife of 44 years, his sister, his kids, his grandchildren, and his golden retriever, Charlie, the Emmy-winning former host of “The Phil Donahue Show” passed away at home.

Thomas, 86, who gained popularity as the lead actor in the 1960s and 1970s sitcom “That Girl,” wrote a lengthy homage on Instagram on Monday, including a picture of the couple on a scooter when they were younger.

She said, “I’m sure you’ve heard the very heartbreaking news that I lost my soul mate last night.”

“I know you understand that I’ll be going away from this page for awhile to take care of my own and all of those who took care of Philip, and held him closest to their hearts,” said Thomas, who portrayed Jennifer Aniston’s mother Sandra Green in the television series “Friends.”

“Good health and joyous moments in the company of friends and family, and I hope that you will keep close those you love most, just as I had the opportunity to do with my darling Phillip,” she said as she concluded her statement, wishing everyone well until she “returns.”

“Love, Marlo,” was Thomas’s final signature. The couple’s scooter photo, which she had shared, “is one of my most memorable photographs of Phil and me, captured on vacation,” she added.
